Second Grade Teacher

Cheryl Valcarce is one of our second-grade teachers.  This is her third year at Brookfield where she has taught a 1/2 combination class, and last year 2nd grade. Overall, Cheryl has taught grades K-6 for 28 years, from Middle School to Kindergarten.  Eight years prior to Brookfield, she was with WCSD, where she taught kindergarten.  She became a master teacher in kindergarten and has had many student teachers.

Cheryl graduated from UNR with a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology and a minor in science.  She received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Weber State University in Utah.  Continuing learning and furthering her interests, has also taught as a Reading Specialist.  From her many trainings and classes, Cheryl earned her MS Equivalency in education in W.C.S.D.  Cheryl loves teaching and is constantly challenging herself with trainings and classes to be the best teacher she can be for her students.  This summer, she attended the Singapore Math training in Phoenix.

Cheryl has spent many years in Reno, while going to Utah in the summer to farm with her father and run a family produce business.  Now with her father gone she devotes her summers to travel.  She has one son, Gaven, who is a Native Nevadan and owns a food truck with the dream of owning a restaurant soon.  In her spare time, she loves gardening, biking, hiking, cooking, reading, and traveling.  One of her best trips was hiking through Machu Picchu.  This summer, she was able to travel and explore Barcelona and cruise to Gibraltar.   Seeing the rock of Gibraltar and exploring the area was exciting and educational.  She will bring some of these experiences into the unit on exploring our world.  She believes children thrive with consistency, responsibility, and challenging them in a loving environment.
